Motorhome Buying Guide – Size Matters

From motorhomes that sleep two people to large Tag Axle motorhomes that can sleep up to six – there is a motorhome for you (and your family).

The first consideration is; How many people can travel in your motorhome?  Not all seating has a seatbelt, therefore it is important to make sure you have enough seats with seatbelts to ensure you passengers are travelling safely.  The 2016 Swift Rio 325 has four seatbelts and is two berth, ideal for a family of four that want to ultilise an awning as extra bedroom.

Next thing to consider is how many people can comfortably sleep in your new motorhome. After a long day on the road, or a short trip and long day on the beach, or walking or cycling or just enjoying the local attractions – it is great if you can all bed down in comfort.

With each of the ranges from Swift and Bessacarr motorhomes you can choose from two berth to six berth, with make up beds, bunks and fixed beds.  The 2016 Swift Bolero 724FB is 4 berth, with a double fixed bed and a double make up bed.

Although, as a rule of thumb, the more beds you require the larger the motorhome will be, it is not always the case. In years gone by a motorhome that slept 6 people was likely to have a tag-axle at the rear. This is not necessarily the case these days – the 2016 Bessacarr 496 comfortably sleeps 6 people and is built on a Fiat Ducato chassis with a single rear axle.

Nor is it the case that a motorhome designed to sleep 2 people lacks size or comfort.  The 2016 Swift Rio offers coachbuilt luxury and is the size of a panel van.  It offers all of the comforts of home with a full kitchen including cooker and oven, fridge and microwave, toilet facilities, shower and enough seating inside the motorhome for 4 adults.

Motorhome Buying Guide – Layout

Getting the correct internal layout of your new motorhome is the next consideration. Depending on the places you will visit will determine whether you need a large bathroom or would rather have more living space.

If you are planning on parking overnight in isolated area or open fields, a bathroom that allows for a comfortable shower is likely a priority. If you will mainly be using caravan parks and camp sites with washing facilities, a basic shower and more living space may be better suited.

All motorhomes are designed with “life on the road” in mind and offer cooking, washing and living space. The amount of space allocated to each varies from model to model.

New Motorhome Buying Guide – New or Second Hand

Your budget will ultimately decide whether you buy a new or second-hand motorhome, however with the huge advancements in motorhomes technology, available features and affordable finance – buying a new motorhome may be the better and overall cheaper option.

The Swift and Bessacarr range of motorhomes boasts the Enhanced SMART plus construction. With a new sandwich floor construction and a GRP outer skin for greater durability from the elements.

The latest motorhome models feature the latest heating and cooling systems to make your time in the motorhome comfortable. The latest entertainment systems, the latest cooking facilities and generally the most advanced technology available from the leading manufacturers of vital elements in motorhome build.

When buying a new motorhome from Newport Caravans we very often have upgrades worked in to the competitive price of the motorhome, ensuring comfort and value for money.

If you buy a second hand motorhome you may need to upgrade the heating, add a canopy awning (many of our Swift and Bessacarr new motorhomes come with one), buy an extended warranty and fit smoke and carbon monoxide alarms – which can add up to £100’s if not £1000’s to your “cheaper” motorhome. Some newer models of motorhomes have functionality that you simply can not add to a second hand motor home, such as LCD control panels, or the Swift smartphone and tablet “app” that allows you to remotely control and monitor functions within your motorhome.
